2005 Mercedes-Benz McLaren SLR

A Legendary Partnership Never to be Repeated

A joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and McLaren Automotive, the car was conceptualised as an homage to the Mercedes-Benz 300SLR of 1955. With the Formula 1 partnership between the two companies, there was a significant pooling of resources that allowed the stylists and engineers to really come up with something that was groundbreaking, whilst also drawing on the rich automotive history they both shared. With such history, Mercedes-Benz drew on one of its most significant cars most recognisable design features in the automotive world, Gullwing doors.

2006 Lamborghini Murcielago LP 640

Named “Murcielago” (Spanish for “Bat”)

The bellowing 6.2 litre 427Kw V12 was mated to a 6 speed E-gear sequentially shifted gearbox (or manual) with all wheel drive giving 70% rear and 30% front distribution of power. Predictably, performance was as crazy as the looks. As if 427Kw wasn’t already mental enough, in 2006 Lamborghini released a facelifted version that was (as with all Lamborghini facelifts) even MORE mental. That stonking 6.2L V12 was enlarged to 6.5L, and the power lifted significantly from 427Kw to 471Kw and the car renamed the Murcielago LP 640 (LP referring to the engine orientation or Longitudinale Posteriore in Italian and 640hp).

2004 Lamborghini Gallardo Manual

The Knight in V10 Armour

After a decade of teetering on the brink of disappearing into the abyss with so many other iconic marques, Lamborghini under the ownership of VW knew they needed to pull something very special out of the hat. Enter the Gallardo. Named for the 18th century Spanish bullfighting breeder Francisco Gallardo (meaning Gallant), the Gallardo was unveiled at the 2003 Geneva motor show and from the second the covers were whipped off, it was a runaway success and put Lamborghini back on the map as a mid-size supercar contender.
